A wide jaw is a strong, masculine trait that is admired in today’s society, but it isn’t just men who have this feature. Due to a variety of factors, including genetics, hormones, and stress, any gender can be affected by a large, or square jaw, and it can cause significant psychological distress for some people. In this article, we want to explore the benefits of jawline slimming treatment.
True Benefits of Jawline Slimming
A common procedure we have the pleasure of providing to many patients at PHI Clinic is our jawline slimming with Botox. Due to the nature of the treatment (the relaxing of the problematic muscle), it can only be used to affect the appearance of a wide jaw caused by enlarged facial muscles, and not that caused by a large mandible (jaw bone).
Temporarily Relax Muscles
Botox, as a cosmetic and medical product, is used to temporarily relax muscles in order to achieve different effects; for smoothing over wrinkles, improving the appearance of a wide jaw, and even reducing excessive sweating (known as hyperhidrosis). In this instance, the masseter muscle, used for chewing, is paralysed using Botulinum Toxin Type A when it becomes hypertrophic, or enlarged.
This muscle, like any other muscle in the body, becomes bigger when exercised, through chewing gum, teeth grinding, and temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJD), and gives the face the square look that so many people dislike. As mentioned above, this treatment is temporary, lasting around three to four months, and is considered an ongoing maintenance treatment in order to sustain results.
