There are so many different conditions that can be treated using cosmetic injectables, and enhancements that can be made with both botulinum toxin and dermal fillers. At PHI Clinic, we only use the brands Botox® and Juvederm by Allergan, for whom Dr Tapan is a Global Key Opinion Leader, training other professionals in how best to use these FDA-approved products. Dr Tapan is also rated among the best experts to see for Botox® and dermal fillers by Harper’s Bazaar.
Cosmetic Injectables : Botox®
Botox® is the most commonly known of the cosmetic injectables for its wrinkle reducing effects across the face, improving the appearance of dynamic lines in areas like the forehead, between the brows (glabellar lines), and beside the eyes (crow’s feet). It does this by relaxing the muscles beneath these areas to smooth out the overlying skin.
We understand that our customers largely want natural results, without looking overdone or ‘frozen,’ so we always aim to under treat and indication initially. We do this to create outcomes that retain some lines of expression and offer the option of a top up at your follow up consultation should you feel you want more.
As well as being used to relax wrinkles across the face, Botox® can be used to alter the shape of the jaw in a jawline slimming treatment. By introducing small amounts of product into the masseter muscle (responsible for creating a wide-jaw look), this square appearance can be reduced to create a more oval shape. Cobbled chin and a gummy smile can also be minimised, using Botox® to smooth the chin and reduce gingival display, respectively.
One of the often overlooked conditions that can be reduced using botulinum toxin injections is axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of the underarms). This works by blocking the signals that stimulate sweat glands, with results lasting for three to four months.
Cosmetic Injectables: Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers often have a mixed reception, though mostly because people don’t understand exactly what they are. We use the Vycross range by Juvederm, which contains a naturally occurring sugar called hyaluronic acid. This attracts around 1000 times its own weight in water to volumise a target area, the most popular being the lips, in a lip enhancement.
It can also be used to change the appearance of the nose in a non-surgical rhinoplasty treatment, to combat asymmetry or a pronounced dorsal hump. The cheekbones can be enhanced using filler, to treat jowling or a hollowed appearance. As well as these, dermal filler is often used for more subtle augmentations, for a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, like those around the mouth (perioral) and deeper lines like those between the mouth and nose (nasolabial folds).
Improved or reduced
There are so many conditions that can be improved or reduced through the use of cosmetic injectables, and here at PHI, we pride ourselves on providing treatments that yield significant results with small interventions. We always recommend that non-surgical treatments like dermal fillers and Botox® are best used as a preventative measure, as they can sometimes be insufficient as methods of correction. In any instance where this is the case, it may be more effective to pursue surgical intervention.
