CoolSculpting: Does It Work?

Stubborn areas of fat

Fat cells are distributed around the body, with some areas having a higher concentration than others; hence why many note they have a specific ‘stubborn area’ of fat which they cannot shift through diet and exercise. Unlike other cells in the body, fat cells are not naturally killed off through the apoptosis process.

How does CoolSculpting work?

Zeltiq’s CoolSculpting device utilises cryolipolysis to freeze these unwanted fat cells. This is then proven to simulate a process of apoptosis (death) of the fat cells. Over time, the body will naturally flush the removed fat cells from the body.

What are the benefits of CoolSculpting?

The benefits of CoolSculpting over surgical means of fat reduction are plenty; not only does CoolSculpting eliminate any need for incision, downtime and scarring, it also achieves effective results, non-surgically.

Am I suitable for treatment?

Suitability for treatment is really dependent on the individual case. Just as surgery is not suitable for everyone, there are some cases in which CoolSuclpting is not beneficial. For best results, the patient will have pockets of fat that can be pinched between the hands. For those who have denser pockets of fat or an apron of fat, CoolSculpting might not be the best solution.

Consultation and treatment plans

Consultations are key to assess the area and to draw up a treatment plan. Treatments are performed per cycle, but some patients will benefit more from having multiple cycles in any one area. It is possible to treat multiple areas on the same day, depending on how many cycles are needed. PHI Clinic has a dual CoolSculpting device, meaning the duration of the treatment can be significantly reduced.

It is not always possible to carry out the procedure on the same day as consultation, as patients may not be suitable for treatment, or there might not be enough time to carry out the number of cycles suggested.

What areas can be treated?

The most popular areas that can be treated with CoolSculpting are the flanks, saddle bags, stomach, inner thigh and bingo wings, but other areas may well be treatable.
