Over the past few months we have been subject to headlines and rumours surrounding the COVID vaccine, as we’re left debating what is true or false. Recently the COVID vaccine has been said to react with both dermal fillers and botox, stating this can create swelling in the targeted area, but as it is so easy to get swept up in the social storm, we’re here to put the rumours to rest.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural ingredient found within the body present in your skin, where it binds with water to retain moisture creating a youthful and rejuvenated appearance but as we age this can diminish.

Dermal fillers entails a wide range of products that can restore volume or structure to the face treating concerns like a bump on the nose, jowls and the lip area. Here at PHI Clinic, HA fillers are a popular choice to restore volume to create a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

“When you have your COVID vaccine this triggers your immune response which will then be on high alert for any foreign bodies entering your system. As a result, when dermal filler is injected, the body recognises this as a foreign body and in some cases may cause swelling to the area.” – Nurse Sarah Gaughan (⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Response has been edited for length and clarity)

As a result, we ask our patients to inform their practitioner if and when, they have had or are going to have their COVID vaccine, to determine an appropriate date to receive treatment.
If you have scheduled your COVID vaccine, please inform your practitioner whether that is before or after treatment. We advise that you do not receive filler treatment within 3 weeks before your COVID vaccine or within 2 weeks after having it.
