If you notice that you can see your gums above your lip line when you smile, this is often caused by overactive muscles that lift the upper lip higher than it should on animation. This can also be exacerbated by the upper lip being thin, as this contributes the amount of gum, or gingival tissue, that can be seen when smiling.

At PHI Clinic, we use gummy smile Botox to relax the muscles responsible for causing excessive gingival display. Botox is a brand of botulinum toxin, a purified protein that is used across the world to temporarily stop a muscle from contracting, in this case reducing the height that the lip will lift to, avoiding exposure of the gums.

During treatment, your assigned clinician will introduce a small amount of Botox via a needle into your upper lip, most usually through the junction of the nostril and the nasolabial fold. Results are generally visible after 3 to 5 days, and will last for 3 to 4 months before a supplementary treatment is needed. We advise that this is an ongoing treatment.
