The Reasons Why You Look So Tired

tired eyes dermal fillers london

It’s probably one of the worst observations someone can make, but “you look tired” is still very much part of our everyday vernacular. It can be said honestly, without meaning to seem ‘mean’ but hearing it a lot can cause a fair amount of self-consciousness in even the most emotionally robust among us.

Cause Of Tired Eyes

The main cause of this ‘tired look’ is eye bags, or periorbital puffiness, which is more of a cosmetic concern than a medical one. A cold compress can improve the appearance of eye bags as a temporary measure, and home remedies are out there, though rarely are they backed up by evidence.

This swelling can be caused by water retention, where it accumulates under the eye to give, or worsen, a puffy look, or through intrinsic ageing. Intrinsic ageing causes subcutaneous fat to shift and tissue to sag downwards as collagen and elastin break down in the skin.

Non-Surgical Methods

There are many solutions out there for reducing the look of tired eyes, including blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery. While this is a more permanent option, the associated downtime is long and riddled with side effects, like sensitivity to light, blurred or double vision, and scarring.

At PHI Clinic, we specialise in non-surgical methods, and for eye bags would recommend dermal fillers. In our tear trough treatment, we use the Juvederm Vycross range by Allergan, which uses hyaluronic acid (HA) to reintroduce volume and balance to the targeted area. With careful application of this filler, even significant swelling and skin laxity can be addressed, with results lasting for anywhere between 12 and 36 months. The effects are noticeable immediately following treatment and continue to develop for around three weeks.
