Can we prevent cellulite?
There are most definitely ways to prevent the accumulation of cellulite and stop it from getting worse, but no, there is no real way to prevent cellulite – it is impossible. Women especially are genetically predisposed to develop cellulite as it is our bodies’ way of storing fat, which is different to the way men store fat. Another reason women are more prone to suffering with cellulite is pregnancy; during pregnancy one of the unfortunate changes in the body is commonly the acquisition of cellulite. It has been said that exercise and a decent diet can stop cellulite, but unfortunately this is a bit of a myth; some of the most toned people suffer with cellulite just as some of the most over-weight people do. Although it is impossible to prevent, there are procedures at PHI Clinic which can help you treat cellulite.
The grades of cellulite
Before considering treatment for your cellulite, it is best to know which type of cellulite you are suffering with. Cellulite comes in different grades (zero – practically non-existent, one –cellulite is only visible when skin is pinched, two – cellulite is visible when standing but not when lying horizontally, or three – cellulite is obvious and the skin appears dimpled whether you are standing or sitting). Cellulite also comes in one of two variations (soft – the saggier variation of cellulite that does not attach itself to the muscle but sits closer to the skin’s surface, or hard – the ‘tough to treat’ cellulite that is more concentrated and lives close to the muscle). The best way to find out which grade and variation of cellulite you have is to visit a consultant for a consultation.
The ways to treat cellulite
There are many anti-cellulite treatments available in today’s market, but which ones work? Cellulite creams have been around for a long time and say they can dissolve fat, but they have little evidence behind their claims. A once popular option for the removal of cellulite was liposuction, but because liposuction targets the deep fat beneath the skin, it has been known to actually make one’s cellulite worse! Some people go to spas for massages to treat cellulite, but the effects don’t last very long at all. The most efficient way to target cellulite currently is with Cellfina, a treatment in which the septa – bands between the skin and underlying tissue – are snipped to reduce the appearance of the dimples for up to three years.
Cellfina at PHI Clinic
Mr Apul Parikh is the only practitioner to offer Cellfina as a procedure at PHI Clinic at the moment, so consultations should be made with him to ascertain treatment plans and costing.
