Upper Eyelid Hollowness Treatment

More and more of our patients are expressing concern over upper eyelid hollowness. We naturally have subcutaneous fat in this area, and we age this can atrophy, creating the hollow appearance in this area. This can make the eyes appear sunken in, and give a tired or prematurely aged look to the face.
This problem is experienced by women and men indiscriminately, but due to the fact that it is women who predominantly wear eye makeup, which the hollowing can affect the look of, women are more likely to seek treatment.

Dermal Fillers For Volume Loss
When we treat an area for volume loss, the treatment will generally involve the use of dermal filler. The fillers we use are made by Juvederm, and are hyaluronic acid (HA) based. HA is a sugar that occurs naturally in the body that acts as a cushioning and moisture-holding agent, and a synthetic form of this is used in dermal fillers. When filler is introduced via a needle into a hollow like the upper orbital rim, the HA works to attract and retain water to revolumise the area, with effects that last for up to 24 months.
Results are noticeable immediately, but will improve over a few weeks as the product settles, so you may only see an 80-90% correction straight after your treatment. We always prefer to under treat any indication initially and add more product at a later date if needed, and this is especially important in the delicate eye area as too much product can give the eye a strange or lumpy appearance at rest and on animation.

Upper Eyelid Hollowness Treatment
To improve upper eyelid hollowness, Dr Tapan will use a needle, or most usually a cannula to add small amounts of product into the hollow, also called a sulcus, above the eye. A cannula is preferable for safety, as well as to minimise any bruising or swelling that could be caused by treatment. This HA gel replaces the lost subcutaneous fat in the area to fill the sulcus, for a lasting improvement in the appearance of the upper eyelid.

Consultation
This treatment should only ever be performed by a highly experienced practitioner, as the orbital area is very delicate and product placed here must be done carefully to ensure safe and effective results.
