Does Vegan Botox ® Exist?

Botox ® is one of the most well-known cosmetic injectables on the market today, and the most popular cosmetic procedure in the world. It seems like men and women of all ages are embracing the injections, but is vegan Botox available?
Used all over the face for its anti-wrinkle and muscle relaxing effects, Botox ® relaxes the muscles beneath lines and wrinkles to smooth them over for a more youthful appearance. It can also be used in the jaw for jawline slimming, reduction of a gummy smile, and even in the armpits for a reduction in hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating.

Vegan Botox ®
A vegan is defined as a person who does not eat or use animal products, and with over 7% of the UK population calling themselves vegan, the expanding movement also wants to engage in cosmetic procedures. Even if you aren’t a vegan, there is a growing number of people searching for cruelty-free cosmetic treatments that don’t include animal products. Botox ® is one such treatment, and the product itself contains nothing of animal origin.
However, due to regulations in many countries surrounding the use of Botox ®, as it is considered a medicine, it must be tested on animals to be sold legally. Allergan have been pushing against this since 2011, and have reduced their testing by over 95% with the intention of eliminating it in the near future, but it does still happen. Allergan does state that where animal testing is carried out, it is done in the most ethical way possible, though it is understandable that vegans may not be comfortable with this.

Botox® Alternatives
There are other wrinkle reduction treatments available here at PHI, including laser resurfacing, which encourages collagen regeneration in skin to achieve a smoother, line-free appearance. This has different intensity settings to treat lines of varying severity.
The Tixel laser can be used right up to the delicate lash line for treating indications like crow’s feet.
