Many of us have heard of the term ‘Botox’, but few fully understand what it is. Beyond knowing that it has something to do looking younger, there is a limitation to our knowledge of the stuff. So what does Botox mean?
Botox® is actually a brand name of botulinum toxin, a purified protein that is administered via injection. Using ultra-fine microneedles, there is little pain involved in treatment, and it takes just a few minutes.
The reason we use Botox® in the cosmetic industry is because it helps temporarily relax facial muscles, therefore preventing and improving the appearance of both static and expressive wrinkles and lines. We can also use it in precise doses to help alleviate tension for those who suffer with migraines, and for those who have the medical condition hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Beyond the world of aesthetics, it is even used to treat children with cerebral palsy.
Botulinum toxin is an incredibly safe, tried and tested drug that is FDA approved and used globally for rejuvenation and anti-ageing protocol. Being the single most popular treatment in the US and constantly growing in popularity across the rest of the world, Botox has been and still is an extremely prevalent treatment.
At PHI Clinic, it is only our Aesthetic Doctors and injectables nurses who administer Botox®. Dr Tapan Patel is our Medical Director and the owner of the practice, with over 19 years’ experience in this field alone. He is an accredited injectable doctor and highly knowledgeable about facial anatomy. Regularly teaching fellow doctors and medical professionals internationally, he is not just recognised by his peers for his excellence, but also adored by our patients.
In addition to Dr Tapan, the highly-skilled Mr Apul Parikh, Dr Nestor Demosthenous, Dr Johanna Ward, Nurse Sarah Gaughan, and Nurse Samantha Knuckey all carry out dermal filler and Botox treatments at PHI.
As well as offering our patients some of the best injectable practitioners in the country, we have the widest selection of treatments in the UK, if not Europe. With hi-tech lasers and devices, as well as a plethora of other therapies on offer, there are few conditions and concerns we cannot treat at PHI Clinic, 102 Harley Street.
We are always honest with our patients, and there may be occasions we suggest the best thing is to do nothing at all, as we always put our patients’ safety first.
