As we age, our skin loses elasticity and starts to wrinkle and sag, and areas of delicate skin can really show these signs. The mouth is one such area, and smoker or not, we all fall victim to wrinkles around lips, or smoker’s lines.
The breakdown of collagen and elastin is particularly evident in women, the predominant users of makeup items like lipstick, which can bleed out of the vermillion border (the edge of the lips).
Dermal Fillers For Wrinkles Around Lips
Wrinkles around lips are a concern shared by many of the people who walk through our doors, who opt for lip enhancement using dermal fillers to soften these, as well as provide a plumping effect for a fuller pout. Lip fillers can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, correct asymmetry, improve the Cupid’s bow, and are even effective in treating drooping mouth corners.
We use exclusively Juvederm dermal fillers, for their range of versatile formulas and staying power, with a longevity of up to 24 months in certain areas. These products are hyaluronic acid based, containing a naturally occurring sugar that retains water to plump the lip for a natural appearance.
Botox For Wrinkles Around Lips
Botox can also be used to reduce the appearance of these wrinkles around lips, when carefully introduced via needle into the top lip. Results from this will last 3-4 months, and we see this as an ongoing treatment at PHI Clinic, requiring regular top ups for continued results. This is generally best used in conjunction with other treatments in this area, but can be applied on its own.
