What is Cellulite?

Cellulite primarily affects women, with around 80% of over 20s showing this indication.

Women are more likely to be affected due to the way in which fat is stored, creating the dimpled ‘orange-peel’ look that so many people dislike. A common misconception is that this reflects poor diet and lack of exercise, but this is not the case. It is the deeper structures which cause this dimpled effect, which although not life-threatening, can cause self conscious concerns for patients.

How to reduce cellulite?

Reducing cellulite is a common goal for many people, as it can be a source of self-consciousness and affect one's confidence. While there is no guaranteed way to completely eliminate cellulite, here are some ways that may help to reduce its appearance:

  • Exercise regularly: Engaging in regular exercise, particularly cardio and strength training exercises, can help to reduce body fat and improve muscle tone, which may help to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
  • Eat a healthy diet: Consuming a balanced diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein can help to maintain a healthy weight and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
  • Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help to improve skin elasticity and flush toxins from the body, which may help to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
  • Consider topical treatments: Some creams and lotions may help to temporarily improve the appearance of cellulite by firming and tightening the skin. Look for products that contain caffeine, retinol, or other active ingredients that are known to improve skin elasticity.

Cellulite treatment at PHI Clinic London

The Endolift laser is an innovative treatment modality which can break through fibrous septae, releasing the skin from the underlying tissue and immediately improving the appearance of stubborn cellulite.

Endolift is a highly specialised micro-optical laser fibre under the skin to generate heat and melt unwanted fat cells. This melted fat is then excreted by your body’s lymphatic drainage over a period of 4-6 weeks, with no need to manually remove it. The heat also creates little micro-zones which stimulates new collagen production resulting in skin tightening over the coming months.

Another treatment option is lymphatic drainage massage with Body Ballancer. Lymphatic drainage massage works to increase the flow of fresh, oxygenated blood to the tissues which can result in a significant improvement in cellulite. When the surface-level tissues responsible for causing cellulite are impacted, it can result in a more uniform and smoother skin texture in the areas affected by cellulite.

How to get rid of cellulite on thighs and bum?

At PHI Clinic, Endolift is a popular option for reducing the appearance of cellulite on the thighs and buttocks. This minimally invasive treatment uses a fine laser fibre inserted under the skin to target and melt fat while stimulating collagen production.

Over the following weeks, the body naturally drains the melted fat and the skin becomes firmer, helping smooth out dimpled areas for a more toned appearance, without the need for surgery or downtime.

Cellulite treatment frequently asked questions

Cellulite is connective bands called fibrous septae which pull down the skin to the underlying tissue, trapping the fatty layer in between which gives the overlying skin a dimpled and bumpy texture.

Reducing cellulite is a common goal for many people, as it can be a source of self-consciousness and affect one's confidence. While there is no guaranteed way to completely eliminate cellulite, here are some ways that may help to reduce its appearance:

Lymphatic drainage is a type of massage therapy that is believed to help reduce the appearance of cellulite. This is because lymphatic drainage massage is designed to stimulate the lymphatic system, which is responsible for removing excess fluids and toxins from the body. When the lymphatic system is functioning properly, it can help to reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and promote the removal of waste products and excess fluid from the body.

By improving lymphatic flow, lymphatic drainage massage may help to reduce the buildup of fluid in the tissues that can contribute to the development of cellulite. Lymphatic drainage massage can help to improve the appearance of cellulite by promoting the breakdown of fat cells and improving skin elasticity.

“With this treatment (endolift) I insert a highly specialised micro-optical laser fibre under the skin to generate heat and melt unwanted fat cells. This melted fat is then excreted by your body’s lymphatic drainage over a period of 4-6 weeks, with no need to manually remove it. The heat also creates little micro-zones of trauma which stimulates new collagen production resulting in skin tightening over the coming months.” - Dr Priya Verma, official international trainer for Eufoton Lasers and Doctor here at PHI Clinic.

Cellulite is most commonly found on the thighs, buttocks, and abdomen, but it can also appear on other parts of the body such as the arms and calves. It is more common in women than men, and is caused by a combination of factors such as genetics, hormones, poor circulation, and lifestyle habits such as a sedentary lifestyle, poor diet, and smoking.

Endolift: Endolift® is a minimally invasive skin tightening treatment that requires little to no downtime. Patients usually experience minimal discomfort during the procedure, although in some cases, a small amount of controlled anesthesia may be administered to ensure patient comfort.

Body Ballancer: Most patients find the treatment to be gentle and relaxing, and some even choose to include the Body Ballancer with their facial treatments. The treatment is non-invasive and uses a gentle, rhythmic action that promotes relaxation while causing minimal discomfort.
