What is a Botox brow lift and how does it work? Why have one and who would benefit the most from a Botox brow lift?

The brow can be one of the first telltale signs of ageing, and understandably most of us want to hold back the clock for as long as we can.
If you are suitable for this treatment, a Botox brow lift may be the ideal solution.

A Brief History Of Botox

Before considering what a Botox brow lift is, it is interesting to discover how Botox was first adapted for cosmetic use quite by a happy accident. Botulinum toxin was first discovered back in 1928 but the toxin’s cosmetic applications were first discovered in 1987, by Canadian eye doctor Jean Carruthers who was using Botox to treat blepharospasm in a patient.

One of her patients reported that the injections made the lines in her forehead disappear. Dr Jean revealed this revelatory discovery to her husband, dermatologist Alastair Carruthers and the couple devoted their time to experimenting with their wrinkle-relaxing discovery. Over the last 30 years, cosmetic applications for Botox have increased and the techniques with which it is administered perfected to the wrinkle relaxing treatments that we see today.

What Is A Botox Brow Lift And How Does It Work?

A Botox brow lift is a cosmetic treatment for the frown lines between your brows; it smooths lines and wrinkles and elevates the height of your eyebrows. These Botox injections work by relaxing underlying muscles to smooth your skin on the outside and relaxing the muscles between the brows. This allows the forehead muscles to pull up the now-relaxed muscles, thereby elevating the brows and opening up the eyes.

Additional Botox injections can also be placed at the ends of the eyebrows to help relax those muscles as this allows the forehead muscles to pull up that area as well. Botox is a non-surgical procedure and is very different from a traditional brow lift, which is a type of cosmetic surgery that involves incisions and removal of your skin and can result in significant downtime.

A Botox brow lift will remain effective for about 3-6 months depending on how your body responds to the toxin, and at PHI we recommend having the procedure every 4 months to maintain the best results.

Why Have A Botox Brow Lift, And Who Will Benefit The Most From It?

Many of us look into the mirror and who we see looking back is the person we know so well but a version that is slightly more wrinkly than we remember. For lots of us, the next port of call is the array of expensive and beautifully perfumed serums and creams, but whilst a good skincare routine is great for the outer layers of our epidermis, they can not correct the muscular dynamism which is the cause of the furrows.

Both men and women with moderate to severe frown lines may benefit from a Botox brow lift, and this type of brow lift is best for significantly sagging skin that can be corrected with this type of muscle lifting. Before you book in for the treatment, you will first need to see your doctor or nurse for a consultation.

At this time, they will discuss your main concerns and explain any individual risk factors and aftercare routines and offer you a cooling-off period to consider the treatment and its benefits for you.

Why Have A Botox Brow Lift At PHI Clinic?

Botox injections are largely unregulated in the UK. While there is an independent body that acts as a watchdog over those administering treatment, there are still many injectors out there who are sub-standard and who use cheap poor quality products. Therefore choosing the right practitioner is crucial. Botox® is a branded form of botulinum toxin and at PHI, we only have medically trained staff and exclusively use Allergan’s Botox to treat our patients.

Dr Tapan Patel is the proud medical director PHI Clinic: a state-of-the-art cosmetic clinic that specialises in non-surgical aesthetic procedures. With over 20+ years of experience, Dr Tapan is a Key Global Leader for Allergan, and he ensures that all of his staff are well versed in the cutting edge of wrinkle relaxing techniques.
