What is Botox and how does it work?
Botox is a botulinum toxin treatment that works by temporarily relaxing selected muscles. These muscles are responsible for repeated facial movements that contribute to dynamic lines and wrinkles, such as frowning, squinting, and raising the eyebrows. Over time, repeated muscle movement can cause expression lines to become more visible even when the face is at rest.
By reducing muscle activity in targeted areas, Botox helps soften visible lines and prevent them from becoming deeper. The result is a smoother, fresher, more rested appearance. At PHI Clinic, our Botox treatments are always used in a measured and personalised way, so the face maintains its expressive and natural nature.
For many patients, Botox is not about changing how they look. It is about looking less tired, less tense, or less lined, while still looking like themselves.

Forehead lines
Botox is well known for treating forehead lines. These horizontal lines can become more visible through repeated eyebrow movement, as well as through age, genetics, sun exposure, and skin quality changes. Botox helps relax the frontalis muscle responsible for these lines, creating a smoother and more refreshed appearance while maintaining natural expression and avoiding a frozen look.
Frown lines
Frown lines, otherwise known as glabellar lines, are the vertical furrows that form between the eyebrows. These lines can make the face appear tired, angry, or worried even when relaxed. Carefully placed Botox can reduce muscle activity in this area, softening the lines and creating a calmer, more open expression.
Crow’s feet
Crow’s feet are the fine lines that form at the outer corners of the eyes. Smile lines are often one of the first visible signs of facial ageing and can deepen over time due to smiling, squinting, sun damage, and collagen loss. Botox can soften the muscles that contribute to crow’s feet, helping the eye area look smoother and more rested without losing a natural smile.
Bunny lines
Bunny lines are the small diagonal lines that appear at the sides of the nose. While subtle, they can become more noticeable during facial expression. Botox can be used to help soften this area for a smoother and softer look.
Non-surgical brow lift
A non surgical brow lift with Botox can help open the eye area by relaxing muscles that pull the brow downwards. This can create a lighter, more lifted look while keeping the result refined and natural. Many patients that consider surgical intervention here may initially opt for a non surgical brow lift first. Whilst long lasting, the results are not permanent like surgery.
Masseter Botox for jawline slimming
Botox can also be used in the masseter muscles to soften a broad or square jawline, this is particularly popular for our female patients seeking a slimmer jawline, but it can also be highly effective for people who clench their jaw or grind their teeth. By relaxing the masseter muscle, Botox can both reduce tension and create a softer lower-face shape.
Botox for gummy smile
A gummy smile is often caused by overactive muscles that lift the upper lip too strongly when smiling. Targeted Botox can relax these muscles and reduce excessive gum show, creating a more balanced smile. This treatment is very effective and a popular choice among our patients.
Botox for teeth grinding
Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, can cause jaw tension, headaches, soreness, and a bulky jawline. Botox can be used to relax the muscles responsible for clenching and grinding, helping to relieve tension while also softening the appearance of a widened jaw.
Botox for excessive sweating
Botox is also used to reduce excessive sweating, particularly in the underarms. By blocking the signals that stimulate sweat glands, Botox can help patients manage hyperhidrosis and feel more comfortable in daily life.

Baby Botox – subtle, preventative treatment
Baby Botox is a lighter, more subtle approach to anti wrinkle treatment. Smaller doses of botulinum toxin are used to soften lines gently while preserving a high degree of facial movement. This makes it a popular option for patients seeking a refreshed look rather than a dramatic change.
Baby Botox is often chosen by first-time patients, younger patients, or anyone who wants a very natural-looking result. It is commonly used for forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines, especially where the aim is to soften movement rather than reduce it significantly.
At PHI Clinic, we assess whether Baby Botox is the right approach for your features and goals, then create a treatment plan designed around balance, movement, and longevity. For patients looking for Baby Botox in London, the key is not simply using less product, but using the right amount in the right places.
Who performs Botox at PHI Clinic?
All Botox treatments at PHI Clinic are prescribed and delivered by experienced medical professionals. Every patient has a consultation before treatment so we can assess suitability, understand your concerns, review your medical history, and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan.
Our practitioners specialise in delivering Botox with precision and restraint. This means focusing not only on reducing lines and wrinkles, but also on preserving facial harmony and ensuring that results look elegant, fresh, and natural.
For patients seeking anti wrinkle injections in London, medical expertise matters. Botox should never be treated as a one-size-fits-all procedure. Careful assessment, anatomy knowledge, and injector judgement are essential to achieving a safe and natural-looking outcome.
We have a selection of medical professionals that have all received extensive training by Dr Tapan to ensure consistency in the quality of our results.
Your Botox consultation and treatment process
Your treatment journey with us begins with a detailed consultation at our Harley Street clinic. During this appointment, your practitioner will assess your facial movement, muscle strength, skin quality, and treatment goals. We will discuss what Botox can achieve, where treatment may be most effective, and how to create the most desirable result.
If treatment is appropriate, Botox is injected into carefully selected muscles using very fine needles. The procedure itself is quick and usually very well tolerated. Clinical photographs will also be taken before and after treatment to help monitor your results and guide any future refinements.
Our approach is always tailored. Some patients want softer frown lines. Others want a smoother forehead, a brighter eye area, or relief from jaw tension. By creating a bespoke plan, we can treat the concerns that matter most to you.
When will I see results and how long does Botox last?
Botox results are not immediate. Most patients begin to notice improvement within a few days, with fuller results developing over the following one to two weeks. The treatment works by gradually reducing muscle contraction in the treated area, allowing expression lines to soften and the face to appear more refreshed.
In most cases, Botox lasts around three to four months, although this varies from person to person depending on muscle strength, metabolism, lifestyle, and treatment area. Patients who are very expressive or who have stronger muscles may find that results wear off a little sooner, while others may enjoy longer-lasting effects.
At PHI Clinic, our goal is always to create a refined result with enough Botox to produce visible improvement while preserving natural movement. In many cases, a conservative approach gives the most elegant outcome.
Does Botox hurt?
Botox treatment is generally very well tolerated. We use ultra-fine needles and careful technique to keep discomfort to a minimum. Most patients describe the sensation as a small scratch that lasts only a moment.
There is usually no need for local anaesthetic, and most people return to normal daily activities shortly after treatment. Your practitioner will provide aftercare advice to help you achieve the best possible result, but there is usually very little disruption to your routine.
For many patients, the treatment is much quicker and easier than expected.
Botox prices in London
Botox prices in London vary depending on the number of areas treated, the complexity of the treatment plan, and the expertise of the injector. At PHI Clinic, treatment is tailored rather than standardised, because no two faces move in exactly the same way and no two patients have the same goals.
During your consultation, we will explain the most suitable treatment approach for you and discuss pricing clearly. Our focus is on safe, precise, medically led Botox that delivers natural-looking value rather than over-treatment.
Patients searching for Botox prices in London are often comparing clinics, but expertise and injector judgement are just as important as cost. A carefully planned treatment can make a significant difference to both your results and your overall experience.
Botox frequently asked questions
Botox can be suitable for a wide range of patients who want to soften expression lines, maintain a fresher appearance, or address concerns such as teeth grinding, jawline bulk, gummy smile, or excessive sweating. Suitability depends on your anatomy, goals, and medical history, which is why consultation is such an important part of treatment.
Botox is not offered during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you have a medical condition that affects the nerves or muscles, this should be discussed during your consultation so your practitioner can assess whether treatment is appropriate and safe for you.
The most important factor is being assessed properly by a qualified medical professional. At PHI Clinic, we will only recommend Botox when we believe it is an appropriate treatment for your concerns and likely to deliver the kind of result you are looking for.
The price for 1 area of botox on the face at PHI Clinic is from £195 and price can depend upon the practitioner that you see and the product provided following your consultation. Additional areas of the face or full face botox treatments would cost more. here is some info on How To Compare Botox Costs if you need further clarity.
Botox's effects typically last around 3 to 4 months, with factors like dosage, muscle activity, metabolism, and lifestyle influencing its duration. For more info about Botox and its longevity see our article on How long does Botox last?
While there is no real downtime or side effects associated with Botox anti wrinkle injections, it is important to note that you may encounter some slight bruising and swelling directly after treatment, due to the needle. You may also be able to see small pin-prick marks at the injection site. This can easily be masked by make-up after 24 hours. Patients can resume their usual activities straight away, and can also fly post-treatment.
The 4 hour rule simply means staying upright for the first four hours after your Botox treatment and avoiding any pressure on the treated area.
During this time, it’s best to:
- Stay upright (no lying down)
- Avoid bending forward unnecessarily
- Keep hands away from the area (no rubbing or massaging)
- Skip tight headwear that presses on the face
This allows the product to settle properly into the targeted muscles. Following this guidance helps reduce the risk of it spreading and supports a more precise, natural-looking result.
In short: give it a few hours to settle, and let the treatment do its job.
Botox is increasingly popular with male clients at PHI. All our treatments are tailored to the aims of the individual, rather than to their gender. Many male patients want to preserve more facial movement, so we offer a very light treatment, using less product, to give the exact result they are looking for.
Alcohol does increase blood flow to the face, so patients are advised to avoid drinking after treatment. However, a small glass of wine in the evening after having Botox is unlikely to cause issues.
There is no ‘right’ age. Some people in their 40s and 50s have very few expression lines, and some people already have deep expression lines in their mid to late 20s. At PHI we always look at the patient and their concerns, not their chronological age.
It is important to remember that results with Botox are dose-related. If a high amount of product is injected, expression will be blunted and the forehead and facial wrinkles may develop a smooth, shiny appearance. The vast majority of our patients want a very natural result, so we put in less product. This retains some expression, and avoids a shiny appearance.
No. There are other licensed brands of botulinum toxin injections, but Botox is the licensed brand name for a specific form of botulinum toxin type A, listed by the FDA as non-interchangeable. No other botulinum toxin type A product can call itself Botox or claim the same efficacy. At PHI, we exclusively use Botox, manufactured by Allergan.
