We all enjoyed an ice lolly now and again as kids, whether you were a rocket lolly enthusiast or a Fab fanatic, but little did we know that exposure to these sweet treats can help to create the appearance of dimples over time. From the likes of Cameron Diaz and Kirsten Durst, dimples have graced the red carpet for years, becoming a prominent facial feature, through the perception of being ‘cute’ or ‘sweet’ when smiling.
Whilst dimples tend to be passed down genetically, can fat freezing through ice lollies be the answer?
Fat Freezing To Achieve Dimples
Dimples are sometimes formed by a change in a facial muscle called the zygomaticus major. Movement of the skin over this muscle when you smile creates the appearance of dimples, and these indicators were the gateway to the discovery of fat freezing.
The effects of fat freezing were first realised when scientists found that children who regularly ate ice lollies began to develop dimples in their cheeks. This led to Dieter Manstein and Rox Anderson carrying out studies by exposing subcutaneous tissue to freezing temperatures around the body, leading to the birth of cryolipolysis as a treatment. Cryolipolysis, also known as fat freezing, or the brand name CoolSculpting, is the process of exposing fat cells to freezing temperatures to reduce fat cells in a particular area. Fat cells that are eliminated exit the body through the body’s natural processes over time.
Fat Freezing With CoolSculpting
International celebrity ambassadors Sarah Michelle Gellar and Malin Akerman are both fans of the latest fat freezing technology CoolSculpting, by promoting their journey to treat stubborn fat. CoolSculpting is the only FDA approved treatment to eliminate stubborn fat in different areas of the body, targeting areas of concern like love handles, bra fat, and bingo wings.
A gel pad is applied to the surface of the skin to create a barrier between the cooling panel and your skin within the targeted area. Patients have reported feeling a pulling or tingling sensation as the temperature slowly decreases throughout treatment. Fat cells freeze at a higher temperature, with no surrounding tissue being affected in the targeted area, and an average 20-25% reduction in fat cells. Whilst fat cells are eliminated from the body for good, patients are advised to keep a healthy lifestyle to maintain results.
