The concept of dermal fillers has been around for over 100 hundred years, initially used to fill in facial defects in the 1890s, but in recent decades they have been used for cosmetic and anti-ageing purposes. When applied to the area beneath the eyes, they can improve the appearance of dark circles and eye bags. This procedure should only be performed by an advanced injector with experience in dermal filler tear trough treatments; for more information, you can find our blog on choosing a practitioner.
Tear Trough Treatment Products
At PHI, we only use products that are tried and tested, that we have complete faith in. For us, this is exclusively Juvederm dermal fillers, made of hyaluronic acid. The range of gels come in a variety of thicknesses to suit different needs across the face. The product most often used in the tear troughs is Juvederm Volbella, a thinner gel that contains Lidocaine to reduce any discomfort experienced during treatment.
Tear trough treatment is usually performed using a cannula rather than a needle, for safety, as the eye area can be extremely delicate. You can find an example of a tear trough treatment performed with a cannula here.
