Lip enhancement, lip augmentation and lip filler are the same thing
Worth clearing up first, because the different names cause genuine confusion when people are comparing prices.
Lip enhancement, lip augmentation and lip filler all describe the same treatment: hyaluronic acid injected into or around the lip to add volume, define the border, or correct asymmetry. You will also see it listed as non-surgical lip augmentation, or grouped with other lip shaping treatments. Clinics use the terms interchangeably.
If you are comparing quotes and one clinic lists lip augmentation in London while another lists lip filler, you are comparing like with like. What actually differs between them is the volume of product, the qualification of the person injecting, and whether a review is included.
Most people come to us for one of two reasons: lips that have always been on the thin side, or volume loss that has arrived with age. The treatment is the same either way.

Who treats you
This is the largest single factor, and it is the one worth paying for.
Cosmetic medicine is largely unregulated in the UK. There are no strict rules on who may inject dermal filler, which is why skill levels range from doctors who have studied facial anatomy in depth to people who took a weekend course. That variation is the real reason prices vary so widely.
We recommend being treated by a doctor or a registered nurse: someone trained to use needles and cannulas safely, who understands the vascular anatomy of the lip, and who can recognise and manage a complication if one occurs. How much product you need
Most first-time patients have between 0.5ml and 1ml.
Half a millilitre is a subtle enhancement: enough to hydrate the lip, define the border and the cupid's bow, and correct small asymmetries while leaving the lip close to its natural size. One millilitre gives noticeably more volume and is usually the most anyone needs in a single session. Either way the aim is a natural-looking shape rather than an obviously treated one.
We often start with less than you expect. Filler can always be added at your review. Removing it means dissolving it, which is a further appointment and a further cost, so starting conservatively is usually the cheaper route as well as the safer one.
Which product is used
When you have lip fillers at our Harley Street clinic we use the Juvéderm Vycross range by Allergan, chosen for their safety record and because our practitioners know these specific products well.
Good product costs more than bad product, and dermal filler injections are not where anyone should be economising. News reports have documented substances including tyre sealant and baby oil being injected in place of CE-marked dermal fillers regulated for use in the UK.
What is included in the price
A quote is only comparable if you know what it covers.

That review matters more than it sounds. It is where small asymmetries are corrected and where a little more product is added if you want it, and it is the reason we can comfortably start with less on the day.
There is no hidden cost in time away from work either. Recovery time is minimal, and the recovery timeline is short: most people are back to normal within a day or two, with any residual swelling settling over the following fortnight.
Being treated in a medical clinic rather than a salon is part of what you are paying for: sterile conditions, prescription-grade product held under proper storage, and a practitioner who can treat a complication rather than refer you elsewhere.
Why the cheapest lip filler is rarely the safest
Nobody should feel awkward about comparing prices. But on this treatment, an unusually low price is usually telling you something specific.
It generally means one of three things: a less qualified injector, a cheaper or unverified product, or no review included. Sometimes all three.
The costs that follow a poor result are the part people do not price in. Dissolving migrated filler is a separate appointment. Correcting an over-filled lip takes time as well as money. And a vascular complication, which is rare but real, needs someone who knows what to do within hours rather than days.
If a quote for lip filler in London looks too good to be true, ask three questions: what is the practitioner's medical registration, which branded product will be used, and is a review included. The answers usually explain the price.
