Millennials And Injectables

Botox and dermal fillers are becoming more acceptable in the public eye, and are not seen as being as extreme as they once were. More and more men and women are embracing non-surgical cosmetic enhancements, and this increase in demand has seen different trends emerge, with some clear contrasts between millennials and the previous generations.

Injectable Statistics

As there are very few regulations surrounding non-surgical cosmetic treatments in the UK, there are no official statistics on the amount of procedures performed here. To understand trends in this area, we often have to rely either on statistics from similar countries, like America, or private survey results, like those from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and RealSelf, respectively.

The data from these suggests that there has been an increase in recent years in the number of 20-29 year olds, currently classed as millennials (general consensus is that millennials are those born between 1983 and 1996), having Botox and dermal filler treatments.

Millennials vs Previous Generations

The generational differences in treatments seem to revolve around the reasons behind people seeking treatments. For previous generations, like Generation X (born around 1961-1982) and Baby Boomers (born around 1946-1960), treatment motives have largely been about correcting concerns and reverting back to a younger appearance. In contrast, millennials are seemingly seeking out procedures that prevent damage and maintain youth with a more proactive approach towards cosmetic enhancements.

Lip enhancement has seen an increase in popularity within all demographics, but particularly with millennials, which is often credited to the rise of social media and influencers.
