CoolSculpting, fat freezing

Fat freezing (cryolipolysis) with CoolSculpting is a leading non-invasive fat reduction treatment a that targets and eliminates stubborn fat that exercise and a healthy diet alone can’t seem to budge.

  • FDA Approved
  • Non-Invasive
  • Little to no downtime

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is an effective treatment that uses revolutionary cooling technology for body fat reduction to reduce subcutaneous fat. Stubborn fat deposits are common, and can be hard to shift with exercise and a healthy diet alone. Many people suffer with this issue due to the natural distribution of fat cells, and can have fat pockets across the body. Some areas will have more fat cells than others, making it more difficult to shift unwanted fat in these places.

What causes stubborn fat?

Body fat reduction can be difficult to lose naturally, through diet and exercise alone. It tends to accumulate in specific areas of the body such as the hips, thighs, CoolSculpting belly fat and upper arms. This type of fat is usually more resistant to traditional weight loss methods and may require more targeted approaches such as CoolSculpting fat freezing, liposuction, or other non-surgical fat reduction procedures. Stubborn fat is often influenced by genetic factors and hormone levels and can vary from person to person.

How does fat freezing work?

At our London Coolsculpting Clinic, this cryolipolysis technology is an alternative to liposuction as a fat reduction treatment, not to be mistaken for fat removal. With FDA approval, it is also called “fat freezing” and cryolipolysis procedures work to eliminate fat cells using controlled cooling for noninvasive body contouring. Subcutaneous fat is cooled to temperatures between -5°C and +5°C, which causes targeted dead cells and won’t be restored, following a healthy diet and exercise. Frozen fat cells are then linked to cell death which the body then naturally processes and flushes unwanted fat cells from the body.

CoolSculpting London experts

At our multi-award winning Harley Street clinic, we use FDA approved procedures to help our patients reduce their body fat. We continue to provide the best services by conducting doctor training days on an ongoing basis to ensure safety and efficiency across the clinic.

Typically for CoolSculpting fat freezing, you will be seen by a CoolSculpting specialist and you will receive a bespoke treatment plan.

Cryolipolysis (fat freezing) treatment journey

During treatment, an applicator is applied to the target area. There are 3 main applicators that we use at PHI Clinic London in order to target areas like the abdomen, neck, love handles, upper arms (bingo wings), thighs, banana rolls, chin, knees, and back fat. The applicator is attached to the area of concern and cools the tissue beneath the skin for around 35 minutes. Although we apply the pack directly onto the skin, the surface is unaffected by treatment, remaining safe and intact.

The Freeze Detect setting on the device allows our clinicians to monitor the exact temperature of the applicator. This ensures safe delivery of the treatment, and makes sure temperatures never drop or exceed the correct settings.

Does CoolSculpting work?

This coolsculpting fat-freezing procedure, freezes at a higher temperature, with no surrounding tissue being affected in the targeted area, and an average 20-25% reduction in fat cells. Whilst fat cells are eliminated from the body for good, patients are advised to keep a healthy lifestyle to maintain long-lasting results.

A number of sessions may be required, but this will be determined and discussed with your CoolSculpting expert to ensure the best results possible for you through customised treatment plans for this non-invasive procedure.

CoolSculpting Applications:

  • CoolAdvantage: This applicator is designed to treat large areas of fat, such as the coolsculpting abdomen and flanks, in a shorter amount of time. It can reduce treatment time by up to 50% compared to previous applicators.
  • CoolSculpting Mini: The CoolSculpting Mini applicator is designed to treat smaller areas of fat, such as the double chin fat, knees, and armpit fat.
  • CoolSmooth: This applicator is uniquely designed to treat 'non-pinchable' fat, such as the outer thighs. It is a non-vacuum based applicator that uses a flat surface to deliver cooling to the treatment area.
  • CoolFit and CoolCurve: These applicators are designed to treat vertical and curved areas of the body, such as the inner thighs and arms.
  • CoolAdvantage Petite: The CoolAdvantage Petite applicator is designed to treat the upper arms.

During a CoolSculpting treatment, the CoolSculpting hand-piece is placed on the targeted body area, and controlled cooling is applied to freeze and destroy the fat cells. The fat cells are then naturally metabolised by the body and eliminated over time. This treatment is a non-surgical alternative for fat reduction and requires no downtime, allowing patients to resume their daily activities immediately after treatment.

Top Coolsculpting Questions

When will I see CoolSculpting results?

Results from this are apparent from 3 weeks after treatment, but optimal results are seen around 3 months after treatment. This process of freezing removes fat cells over time, which leads to a reduction of the subcutaneous fat layer.

Am I a suitable candidate for fat freezing?

The CoolSculpting fat freezing treatment is intended for individuals who have localised areas of unwanted fat. It is not intended for those who are obese and seeking a weight loss solution such as gastric bypass surgery. This cosmetic procedure is best suited for those who have visible bulges in specific areas of their body that they wish to reduce. A large number of people prefer a non-invasive alternative to liposuction.

A tailored treatment plan will be provided upon consultation with a CoolSculpting expert where we will assess the area of concern.

Who should not have CoolSculpting?

You should not have the CoolSculpting fat freezing treatment if you suffer from cryoglobulinaemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria. The CoolSculpting procedure is not a treatment for obesity and not to be mistaken for fat removal but fat reduction.

 Where does the fat go?

After the targeted fat cells are crystallized (frozen) during the procedure, they are naturally eliminated from the body. This results in their permanent destruction, and they do not return.

Is CoolSculpting safe?

CoolSculpting fat freezing is a widely recognised and trusted non-invasive treatment for reducing fat. It has a proven track record of being both safe and effective. The treatment involves the use of controlled cooling devices that are equipped with built-in safety features. In the event that the skin temperature becomes too cold, the system will shut down automatically to prevent any harm. At PHI, we will pair you with a CoolSculpting expert to help you achieve your body goals.
